Challenge / Goal
The municipality of Eindhoven has an ambitious vision and roadmap for urban lighting in Eindhoven extending to 2030 with the aim of improving quality of life. The lights in the area needed to be replaced with LED lighting as per the plan of the City. Additionally, the area is right next to the Philips Stadium, which when there are big events, can get very crowded at before the start and finish of the events.
Solution
In this project, Strijp-S Ontwikkeling along with several partners equipped the light poles in the area with multicolor LEDs allowing for an interactive control of individual lights. RGBWW LEDs enabling many different ways of interactions with sensors have been used. The interactive control enables to use the lights for different services - and hence different customer groups can receive access to the management of the lighting based on their needs. Some of the projects include: i) guiding people by using the lighting in times of crowded events to avoid chaos, ii) seasonal lighting to improve comfort for the citizens, iii) light enabled safety control using sound sensors.
