Challenge / Goal
The delivery of parcels on the "last mile" poses ever new challenges for the parcel service due to a variety of factors, including changes in recipients' lifestyles and demanding urban planning aspects. "DPD fulfils its social and ecological responsibility as well as its supply responsibility by adapting its concepts to current conditions, but also by actively participating in the design of solutions for the urban logistics structure," said Rainer Schwarz, Managing Director of DPD Austria, on the occasion of the opening of the City Hub in the Seestadt Aspern.
Solution
The aim of the first City Hub in Vienna is to temporarily store the parcels for a short time and then deliver them in Aspern with cargo bikes and an electric transporter in an environmentally friendly, low-noise and low-CO2 manner. The DPD City Hub also fulfils another important function: it serves as a pick-up parcel shop, where parcels that cannot be delivered to the recipients are stored and can be collected by the recipients during attractive opening hours. The parcel shop is also available for posting parcels.
